Evaluation of a Community-Based Response to the Needs of Orphaned and Vulnerable Children
With support from the Rockefeller Foundation, DAL led a $1 million international effort to develop a research protocol for assessing the effectiveness of aid programs targeting orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC) in East Africa. DAL facilitated the development and testing of 17 quantitative and qualitative survey tools; provided project management for data collection in an East African village; wrote and published a final report; and disseminated the results among domestic and international government entities, nonprofit and for-profit organizations, and major funders in the area of OVC care.

Godfrey's Children's Center
DAL raised funds and participated in a partnership with two other NGOs to construct a community-based residential facility that provided food, shelter, general health care, and preschool and after-school programs to more than 50 orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC) in Tanzania, East Africa. DAL provided project management expertise to the local Tanzanian NGO in the areas of personnel, governance, finance and administrative systems.

Developing a High-Performing Campaign Team
In collaboration with two prominent experts in the field of team excellence, DAL developed a quantitative and qualitative evaluation instrument designed to measure the internal functions of a political campaign team. The survey tool provides data regarding the ongoing effectiveness of a political candidate’s team.

In 1996, then-President Bill Clinton used the survey tool to assess the performance of individual units within his re-election team. The tool was effective in giving his team an edge, propelling the campaign forward and helping him to win re-election.

Developing a High-Performing Professional Sports Team
Competent professional athletes require much more than technical skills to succeed. Players must also focus on interpersonal skills – interactions with other players, the coaching staff as well as members of the front office.

DAL has developed a tool that measures the internal dynamics of professional sports teams. By assessing a team’s effectiveness, DAL is able to then facilitate the development of collaborative alliances, shifting the team’s focus from internal dynamics to a winning season.
